[Milsurplus] Batteries, an interesting problem...

I just came across a problem, a major problem in fact...

"D" Cells.

The damned things have GROWN nearly 3/16 of an inch over the past 30 years!
I just picked up some equipment, new in box, never opened, the items run on
D cells, and the spacing is very tigh.  Energizers don't fit, not even
close!  The original cells are there, they were packed seperately, and the
body is much shorter with the tit on top being longer.  The new barreies
have a tall body with a short tit, darn near just a bump on the + side.
What brand(s) of batteries meet the old dimentions?
