Ron -

The BC-188A is the modulator unit used with the BC-187A transmitter. The
whole unit, including the receiver (BC-186A), and its accessories was known
as the SCR-178. It is a neat simple design, nearly obsolete by WWII, except
for training, and they still made some for that purpose. Most of it was
housed in a large wooden crate with compartments for each part, and was
considered a "field set". Receiver was battery operated and the transmitter
used a hand crank style generator. There are not too many complete units
