Hue et al

Just unpacked 6 NOS cases for the RT-77 and RT-77A/GRC-9, and now I'll be=
t
that I know what they were talking about. The original cases for the RT-=
77
and early RT-77A were built just like the BC-1306 cases insofar as extern=
al
appearance is concerned (they are larger, of course). Meaning that the
CW-109/GRC-9 top cover as well as the main case (which does not seem to
have had its own nomenclature) were stiffened or reinforced by stamping a=

large checker board pattern in the flat surfaces. Later cases were built=

just like the earlier ones, but the CW-109's are smooth (flat) on the top=

and sides. The corner and edge radii are actually about the same but the
general appearance of the cover is such that it looks much more nearly
rectangular, and I can see how someone at Fair might have claimed that th=
ey
had square corners. =

I have one RT-77A made on a 1952 Order that is in one of the later cases.=
 =

According to the collector who I got if from about ten years ago, it had
been through Depot, and I suppose had its case/cover replaced. Its
original case was the early style, as one of the NOS ones is from the sam=
e
order, and it will soon be back in a case that looks like its original. =

:-) The late case that I have had for a decade and the four that I just
got are all from the same Avco (they apparently bought Crosley) order. B=
ut
the Order Number does not appear to have a date buried in it, so I don't
know what year they were ordered.

>>--I have a note from Fair radio saying if i wanted a "squared off case"=

GRC-9,
>>i should include $5 extra for them to select one out, as everything was=

>>already packed for shipping.

I haven't seen a Telefunken RT-77 or RT-77A but I've heard of people who
have or had one. I have an RT-77 as I think I said earlier that has Fren=
ch
nameplates, but haven't yet had time to try to figure out whether they
built it (quite possibly). My point (and admittedly it's a bit of a nit)=

was that I had never heard of them (French or German) building a complete=

AN/GRC-9 all at one time. I've never come across any TM 11-263-Gy or -Fr=
,
and I have seen manuals with that sort of nomenclature for other
components, including the GN-58-A-Gy.

>>--Maybe not, i don't know, but what about the GRC-9 receivers with =

>>Telefunken nameplate? ( I have not seen the rest of the rig.)
