They could be the GRC-9M's made in West Germany for NATO.  I've seem a
GRC-9M receiver, and it was made a bit better than the other ones.  The
offensive black-molded paper capacitors were replaced by larger red-molded
ones, and did not need replacement.  Subjectively I think it was a bit
hotter than the others.
