Robert's inquiry brings up something I have always wondered about.  When
I worked for a major electronics manufacturing operation, 40+ years ago,
well before the widespread use of computers for database management, we
had a reverse parts list which itemized each piece of equipment which any
given part or subassembly was used in.  Did the military ever have
anything which approached this?  These days it would only take a few
lines of code in a database, but I get the impression that no
comprehensive forward parts list exists, never mind a reverse one. 
Anyone spend enough time in Integrated Logistics Support to provide a
comprehensive story about how the military services handle this?
