Group,
People tend to forget that the TCS is a five-channel set, one Master
Oscillator and four crystal. When I was aboard USS Valley Forge (LPH-8) in
'67/'68, we had two TCS's aboard. One was routinely used for Harbor Common
(tug control, etc) and if I remember correctly was crystal controlled on 2715
KC or thereabouts. It isn't too well known, but there was an Interphone Amp
built for use with the TCS in crew served vehicles. Handled up to four
remotes. And there were several remote control units besides the common
NT-23270 standard shipboard unit. One looked just like the 23270 except for
a Radio-Interphone switch and an additional mic and headphone jack. Some had
no speakers. Two had provision for attaching to field wire with an EE-8 on
the other end.
As AN/MRC-6(*), the TCS was a vehicular set at least past the introduction of
the M38A1 in the 50's. One TCS dynamotor model is dual voltage, 12/24VDC.
Etc.
