When I lived in Montana, a ham friend of mine who was several
years younger than I, had a WS-19 set which he used constantly
back in around 1970. He did mostly CW on the HF bands with it
and really liked it. He did not have the control boxes either and had
done some small modifications to it to use it without them.
When I saw it I thought it was a really neat rig and wanted one. I
still do but cannot afford it at this time.
It was looked upon by practically every other ham of my
aquaintance of the time (except my "Elmer", Woody Davey
W7CJB) as being useless junk, but he proved it to be really
worthwhile and a fun rig to operate.
So there were some few hams who viewed the WS-19 as more
than a boatanchor.
