The URR-13 and URR-27 (UHF and VHF) were designed to minimize the radiation
of RF from the LO. These radios were extensively used on US submarines
during and after WW II.

In fact, the RF amp and RF Mixer were differential to utilize common mode
rejection to avoid LO RF leakages.

A schematic of the URR 27 can be found on my web site

Interesting topic....

I guess I need an education here. I was under the impression that Higgins
boats and other landing craft did not have radios most of the time and were
directed by flag on the water and a Beach Masters PAM or PAB announcing
system at the beach itself. Amtanks and LVTs had radios as well as the
tanks, but we are talking hundreds if not thousands of vessels here.

Mark
