Musings:
If that unit is like many of the government multicouplers I have dug
into, it will have some rather good high and low pass filters on the
front end. The antennas used where those were installed often gathered a
lot of MW (broadcast station) energy, and not filtering them out caused a
lot of cross modulation products and raising of the noise floor. Where
it is connected to a small aperture antenna like one of the active
antennas, there is a possibility that it may perform satisfactorily with
the high pass filter removed or bypassed. Unfortunately, some models had
both the low pass and high pass sections integrated into one assembly,
while others used reactive components on the stages to accomplish band
limiting. Given the circuit description provided, it would seem the
stages ought to operate down to a low enough frequency, unless this is
the one which uses the interstage transformers as the bandwidth limiters.
