I don't know of an Internet source for info on transcription disks and the turntables to play them, but I can confirm that such things did exist. �The transcription disks were larger than the later LP records (16") and required a larger turntable than was the norm for home use. �The ones I have here are all 33-1/3 rpm, not the 16 rpm you mentioned. �Perhaps the "16" refers to the size not the speed.
Broadcast stations used this technology for recording and playback before the various tape systems came into common use. � Blank disks for recording had index holes in addition to the usual center hole. �A cutting lathe turntable was used for recording and playback was on the larger turntables with longer-than-usual tonearms. �
Networks distributed shows on transcription disks as well.
