The recent discussion about making replacement cables reminded me that I
recently removed the armor braid from a 50 foot piece of RG-18 to make it
a little less hazardous to handle with bare hands. This braid has a few
wires sticking out as they all do, but it is otherwise intact and
available for shipping cost to anyone who wants to try it for making
(large) cables. The book says it is 0.928" OD, and RG-17, which is the
actual cable inside the armor is 0.870", so those should define the
manufactured OD and ID respectively. It is slightly expanded at the
present to get it off the coax, and I have no good idea how small it will
pull down to, but I wouldn't expect it to go much less than 0.85" or so,
and still look like braid. Anyone interested in it contact me off list.
Shipping will be slight as it is apparently aluminum, or the lightest
steel I have ever encountered. I will check it with a magnet if
necessary to define that.
