I D Plates. Some radios such as BC 348 appeared in the market place
minus the front panel ID plate.... probably as a result of falling out
of an aircraft/ truck etc.!
I have found a creative engraver/trophy plate maker who uses a
computer controlled laser system to fabricate plates
indistinguishable from the original. Normally he engraves on sporting
trophies and the like. With over 3000 fonts to chose from. lettering
no problem except that getting the unusual "Western Electric" script
such as used on Command shockmounts etc , is not quite accurate.
The use of photographic/etching techniques is eliminated, and I
understand that front panels can be produced with the same method.
Cost for a '348 plate was A $10. The S/N is also engraved at the same
time. Photo of work done to those interested .
BTW. I also had a plastic dial plate engraved--- the CAL plate on the
ARR-15 rx. This has to be done in reverse as the figures are
illuminated from the rear.
XTAL OVEN. The heater in my 500kHz oven used in the ARC -38 came
deceased. Since the xtal likes to operate at around 70 C. , the
replacement of oven/heater impossible here.
Solution was to wrench out the old heater/thermostat stuff and in
this example wire in a 200 ohm 5 W ceramic case resistor. Since no
series /.voltage setup involved , this OK across 28 V . Temperature
appeared to stabilise after 15 mins to around the right figure. Some
experiment might be needed.
Cheers
Pete
