Dave,

>I have an AN-29-C antenna with the "C" stamped
on after-market. Do you think this was originally =

an AN-29 retrofitted for the BC-659?
If so, I could have the screw turned down to =

fit the BC-222.
<
It could be. Steve F. reported having one that sounds like it was
modified. From the standpoint of turning it back into an AN-29 or AN-29-=
B,
it depends on which it was originally and how it was modified. From a
practical standpoint, it would probably be better to part off the 5/16"-1=
8
stud, drill and tap the end piece for 1/4"-20 and install a piece of
threaded rod. Otherwise, although the minor diameter of 5/16"-UNC is
larger than 1/4", it's larger by only 0.007" and the 18 pitch would
probably still show up on the crest of the 20. And the tread wouldn't go=

all the way up to the bottom of the antenna.

>I don't see how it was possible for a troop to =

carry these big, long steel antennas without breaking them =

off on something. The AN-29 is so long you could =

use it for a flagpole. Might as well run up a
red flag marked "drop mortor rounds here."
<
Yeah. Although at least in the case of the SCR-509 and SCR-609's, they
weren't set up so as to be operable while in motion. Doesn't do anything=

about the flagpole, though. :-)
