August turned out to be a good month for playing radio in both Savannah and
Brunswick. The helicopter lineup at Coast Guard Air Station Savannah
solidified

as
three of the five MH-65Ds there were swapped out during the end of July and
first of August. August also saw E-3 AWACS and E-8 JSTARS aircraft
operating the southeast and coastal Georgia area. A detachment from
VMFT-401 came back to MCAS Beaufort to work with VMFAT-501 on F-35B pilot
training. A handful of VFA-103 F/A-18Fs worked out of Savannah for the last
two weeks of the month as well. During the last week of the month, I also
caught a flight of 125th FW F-15Cs returning to Jacksonville IAP from a
deployment to Romania. Unfortunately, the month did end on a tragic note.
Hurricane Harvey struck Texas and I caught one of the Coast Guard Air
Station Savannah MH-65Ds heading that way followed a few days later by a
Coast Guard Auxiliary flight transporting more crew. On 28 August, there
was a fatal plane crash
