Hi Glen:

Have you considered joining FlightRadar24?
In my area where there were no FR24 receivers the aircraft were pretty much where they said.  That's to say when a plane 
was shown on the map I can go out the front door and look in the direction shown and it's pretty much there every time.

I tried, but do not live in a good spot (surrounded with tall trees and mountains), but a friend is on top of a mountain 
so he joined.
They provide the box which requires a high speed internet connection (something else I'm missing), power and a good sky 
view for both a GPS and Mode-S antenna.
