I have been using VRS with ADSBSharp for local Mode S monitoring. As most of the MILCOM world uses PlanePlotter I decided to use download and test it during the 21 day trail period. After a day of frustration I finally got it to work with Dump1090 because the PlanePlotter website said that was best for MLAT use. I am now on Day 4 of my trial period. I have not tried to set up the NTP, GPS serial feed and clock synchronization using the Meinberg NTP software needed for sharing and MLAT. It looks very intimidating. May need some help.
I have one basic question first about PlanePlotter. I live under several busy commercial aircraft corridors near Emerald Isle in North Carolina, but also very close to Cherry Point and New River. There are a fair amount of OTIS C-130 flights KC-135 Tanker and REACH flights in the area on a daily basis that don't transmit their GPS position. I think I understand that I need to set up and use MLAT function to get a general location of where those planes might be. I notice that some P-8A Poseidon flights actually do transmit GPS information.
Since I want to use PlanePlotter mainly for MILCOM is there a way to set up an alert for Military flights in the area or just set a filter to display and track only Military flights only like you can using VRS?
Any help walking through the PlanePlotter configuration and setting up the MLAT and Master User Status would be very appreciated?
Thank you,
