Orbital ATK's L-1011 "N140SC" Stargazer carrier aircraft has just departed
Cape Canaveral AFS (7:35am EST) to begin its flight to a point about 100
miles east of Daytona Beach where, at about 40,000 ft altitude it will drop
the winged Pegasus rocket that is strapped to its belly. F/A-18 "NASA
846," the chase plane, has taken off as well.
The Pegasus Rocket will then launch and deploy 8 small satellites that
comprise NASA's Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS), which
will be used to analyze winds in Hurricanes. The launch is expected to take
place at 8:26am EST.
I am hearing comms between the Stargazer aircraft and the launch team
on the ground on frequencies 133.8 and 264.8 MHz. If you have a radio
scanner, listen in.
