NORFOLK (NNS) -- The aircraft carrier USS George HW Bush (CVN 77) departed
its homeport of Norfolk to undergo various carrier qualification (CQ)
operations in the Atlantic Ocean, Feb 10.
"CQs are primarily to help train new pilots," said Aviation Boatswain's
Mate
(Equipment) 1st Class Dwayne Williams, currently stationed on board George
HW Bush. "We'll be training new pilots for carrier-based launches and
recoveries."
The underway will include various shipboard training evolutions for each
department. George HW Bush will also be receiving multiple air crews to
conduct flight operations.
"CQs are an important mission that is often underappreciated," said Chief
Operations Specialist Jermaine Moore. "It's vital to the Navy's mission
readiness as it is geared toward new pilots, and periodically for
experienced pilots, to achieve and maintain superior carrier landing
proficiency levels."
George HW Bush recently returned from a nine-month deployment to the US
5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility and is currently underway
conducting training exercises in the Atlantic Ocean.
