As many of you are aware that listen to/monitor Civil Air Patrol radio
communications, CAP has upgraded it's VHF radio system with new
repeaters and mobile/base, and many portable radios operating not only
on NFM but also P25 digital. Additionally HF/SSB with ALE (automatic
link establishment) radios are continuing to be purchased as funds
become available. The HF/SSB/ALE equipment includes portable (temporary
fixed base) rapid deployment packages (radio in suitcase with all
accessories including an antenna), fixed base, as well as mobile HF
radios. CAP has a fleet of 550 small aircraft, 980 ground vehicles,
and over 8000 radios.

To operate this equipment (in many instances from units' facility radio
stations and/or designated mission support bases or even as deployed
mobiles), the organization needs additional personnel to staff these
locations. Likely many that are in the monitoring hobby have the skill
set that would allow them to be very effective volunteers providing
radio communications to support CAP emergency service missions whether
it be on the ground or in the air.

If you are interested I'd suggest that you contact your local unit.
Information on unit locations can be found at:
