Over January 6/7 I took a road trip to Charleston, SC to visit Fort Sumter
and Patriots Point. While I was there I also spent some time monitoring
and scanning. I've just included the military notes below, but if you're
interested in seeing the public safety notes (Fire/EMS only) and some radio
related photos you can check out these posts on my blog: 6
Jan<http://kf4lmt.wordpress.com/2014/01/06/charleston-sc-road-trip-scanning-report-6-january-2014/>
 and 7 Jan<http://kf4lmt.wordpress.com/2014/01/07/charleston-sc-road-trip-scanning-report-7-january-2014/>.
I also have some blog posts up with photos from Fort
Moultrie<http://kf4lmt.wordpress.com/2014/01/07/charleston-sc-road-trip-fort-moultrie/>
(ferries
to Fort Sumter were closed due to weather), the North Charleston & American
LaFrance Fire Museum<http://kf4lmt.wordpress.com/2014/01/08/charleston-sc-road-trip-north-charleston-and-american-lafrance-fire-museum/>
, Patriots Point<http://kf4lmt.wordpress.com/2014/01/08/charelston-sc-road-trip-patriots-point/>,
and of aircraft from Patriots
Point<http://kf4lmt.wordpress.com/2014/01/08/charleston-sc-road-trip-patriots-point-aircraft/>
.

Monday (as usual) wasn't a particularly active MilCom day except for the
steady stream of C-17s out of Charleston AFB. On Tuesday it picked up a
bit with some F-16 and F/A-18 activity added. Due to driving in an
unfamiliar area and being busy visiting the museums I didn't keep a
specific log but just tried to catalog the frequencies I heard in use.

Except for the site information on Radio Reference, I haven't seen a lot
online for the Department of Defense TRS sites in the Charleston area. The
FD and PD talkgroups are listed for the Naval Weapons Station (NWS) but
there is nothing for Charleston AFB. I wasn't able to ID most of the
talkgroups I monitored but I was able to discern if they were probably from
the NWS or the AFB and TG 28760 was obviously being used by the FD at
Charleston AFB.

With Sector Headquarters located in Charleston, there was a good bit of
USCG activity to be heard. In Savannah, almost everything I hear from USCG
is encrypted on the CG frequencies but I heard quite a bit of activity in
the clear in Charleston on Ch. 21, Ch. 82, and Ch. 83.
