[MilCom] C-130s

Last night around 1030 pm local King 21 (88-2101) a HC-130n doing late night approaches to Schenectady Airport. I was watching the plane do the approaches and he was all lit up green in the front of the plane and the runway lights were all turned off. I am guess NVG training. 
Earlier in the day, 430pm local , Skier 90 (83-0490) a LC-130h did a few air drops at the airport. He is still using RCH5E5 as his mode-s . This is from a few weeks ago when he was returning from New Zealand. Is it possible to not reset the Mode-s , since the last few missions he flew was training? Picture of drop attached
