I've found that often those interested in monitoring also share an interest
in military history. If you've got an HF or shortwave radio, this weekend
is a good time to combine the interests of radio and military history; it's
Museum Ships on the Air Weekend. Throughout the US and the world, museum
ships and related museums/memorials with amateur radio stations or temporary
stations will be on the air on the amateur radio bands. Last night, I
worked a handful of them including the USS Orleck in LA, the USCGC Ingham in
FL, the USS Stewart and USS Cavalla in TX, and the USS Turner Joy in WA.
Some of you may remember the USS Turner Joy as one of the destroyers in the
Gulf of Tonkin incident. If you're interested, there is a website with more
info on Museum Ships on the Air Weekend: http://www.nj2bb.org/museum/
