Greetings everyone,
CTV News is reporting on the intercept of Sunwing 211 back in July 2012 after they missed a frequency change from Gander Centre and flew almost an hour out of contact with ATC. The incident is only being reported now because of a freedom of information request made by CTV News.
The story is here:
http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/pilot-error-on-sunwing-flight-caused-cf-18-fighter-jets-to-scramble-1.1173510
The video news report on the website contains audio clips of VIMY11 (a CF-18 flight of 2 scrambled from 425 Sqn Bagotville) and the Sunwing aircraft.
The best part though is the extra material on the CTV News website. If you pull up the "Digital Extra" portion of the web page on the story, there are map graphics showing the flight, and it seems like full audio of the entire intercept, including communications between VIMY11 and SIDECAR, (NORAD North Bay). It seems that CTV News was provided a complete audio record of all of the air to air communications with the fighter pilots, NORAD, and ATC.
Unfortunately, you need the Google Earth Pro plug-in to access the material, and my PC kept crashing on me. I finally had to give up, so I haven't heard it myself, but if you can pull up the "Digital Extra" interactive material on your computer, it appears you can listen to all of the communications during the intercept. It should be quite interesting. Good luck.
Regards,
Rob
