WD8ARZ in South Bend, Indiana is a HFN MarsAle Pilot Station supporting
the HF Interoperability Exercise for 2013
Trimode WINMOR is in operation in parallel with the MarsAle operation.
MarsAle is doing the scanning for the entire system.
To do a WINMOR operation, it is required that an ALE connection be
established first. Once that ALE connection is made, make the WINMOR
connection. When complete with your task, disconnect from WINMOR, and
then disconnect from ALE. Both will time out if connection is lost, such
as due to propagation conditions. Once timed out, the MarsAle program
will resume scanning. Frequencies of operation are listed below.
Two ways to establish connection:
- While PcAle or MarsAle program your using is scanning, make a call to
the station you wish to establish an ALE connection with. Such as
KQ6XA. Your program will make calls to the station of interest on
frequencies that that station had previously been heard on if that
information has been collected yet. Other wise it will start making
calls on each frequency in your QRQ file until timed our or a connection
is made.
- Other method is to not have your ale program scanning. Pick one of the
frequencies listed below that you think is the best propagation to the
station you wish to call. Put in the station call and initiate the
calling. The station your calling must either be on frequencies, or is
scanning. If the station hears your call, it will accept a connection if
conditions are good enough
It is possible I might be at the keyboard from time to time, but in
general, dont expect that.
Base Station here is a TS-480HX capable of 200 watts output and
operating off a battery system 24 / 7. Same system is used in the
mobile from time to time.
Back up MarsAle station is FT-1000MP.
Base antenna is a Carolina Windom 10 - 160 Meters, 265' long
horizontally running North to South.
Mobile antenna for voice is a HiQ 5/160 10-160 meters. ALE runs off a
long whip and auto tuner.
At times I will be running a second ALE station using PcAle from the
base or mobile putting the systems through there paces.
