Hi Bob,
I also use an Icom R8500 and MARS-ALE to monitor. I'm using v2.0 of
MARS-ALE right now, but prefer the older version. Will have to switch back
some day. The MIL-STD-188-141A settings being used here are:
Scan Rate: 2
Enable/Disable section, all unchecked except: LQA, Allcalls, Anycalls,
Wild Cards, This IS Sound, Display Sounds, Listen Calls, Linked TWX, Freq
Display, Display Date, Log to disk, Use RTS for PTT, PTT Status Display.
Release Resources: Radio 1 Com Port
Parameters: Sounding Period=60, Resound Period=5, Sounding Attempts=5, ATU
Tune Words=0, TWA=300, PTTD ms=30, LQA Timeout=1440, Frame Votes=30, Frame
Errors=3, Sync Votes=10, Sync Errors-0, DCD Theshold-1, SCLC=8, Listen
time=10, TX Audio Level=10, RX Audio Level=10, Unmuted Audio=0, Muted
Audio=0.
The rest of it is user specific, com port, etc.
Many of the above parameters have nothing to do with listening only, but
this is what I have in my setup and it works OK. There is no delay to
restart scanning after receiving ALE data. Also, the Delay/Speed knob is
completely counter-clockwise, but that doesn't seem to have any effect when
running this program.
