[MilCom] Over Indiana today

Anybody got any idea what the heck was going on over Indiana today?  Around 2 PM to
3PM EST I was driving into Indy from the north, and we had more contrails overhead than
I have seen in my life.  I lost count of how many groups of three (parallel courses, typically
"two and a trailer" or variation) I saw, and they were flying in multiple directions.  I 
observed this for the whole trip, a bit over an hour.  I was back outdoors for a while at my
destination between 5:30 and 6PM and the trios were STILL going on.
 
I think I saw something about AF1 having been in the area, but I'd bet in the time I was
observing I must have seen close to 100 aircraft high enough to leave contrails...........
 
That's WAAAAY more than usual.
