I heard about our colleague Mike Day's passing from a friend early
yesterday, and although I never met him, my friend and a few other
friends had, and all told me what a great guy he really was once you
got to know him. All had maintained regular contact with him since
meeting him. I had exchanged numerous emails with him over the past
several years and had originally come to a much different conclusion.
In retrospect, that first impression was entirely my own fault and
most definitely not his...and my loss. Over time, I learned to
perhaps not always understand his sense of humor or understand the
man, but to appreciate the fact that he was certainly very down to
earth and a decent human being, which are both admirable qualities and
which he seemingly possessed to the nth degree. He really did make
lasting impressions on everyone he met.

In any case, his sudden passing came as a complete shock, my
condolences to his family and friends, and I for one will miss his
regular contributions to these lists and his zest for the
planespotting hobby.

RIP Mike.

Tony
