Just reflecting a bit today about 9/11/2001. It was unbelievable while
at work, someone came in and stated a plane had crashed into the NYC WTC
tower. We turned on a portable TV and watched in horror as another plane
crashed into the other NYC WTC tower.
It was so strange not to hear any aircraft flying above or even on the
scanner just about no air traffic very soon after that time.
Hopefully, this will NEVER happen again!!
Some good official reading material on this can be found at:

Locally we now have the 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes ANGB, Westfield, MA
that stands on 24 hour a day alert with F15's, ready to take any action
necessary to protect homeland security
see: http://www.104fw.ang.af.mil/ I'm sure those of you that visited the
base during the recent open house were impressed with the new alert
facility.
Weekdays (and drill weekends) the F15's are out training at W105, Falcon
MOA, & other training areas in New England during the week. Generally the
callsigns are KILLER & RAGE are utilized.
During actual alert responses primarily SLAM (2 digits) are utilized & HAWK
has also been utilized.
Local ATC frequencies: 289.4, 251.1, 281.5, 327.1, 269.2, 307.9, 292.15,
379.1.
Command & Control frequencies: 303.0, 259.9, 264.85, 338.1, (also typical
NORAD freqs).
It's very impressive watching the F15's take off on training missions, and
those that have been on scene during actual responses have also seen the
difference.
So again hopefully you've taken a few moments to remember this day & the
people that lost their lives as well as thank the various active, guard, &
reserve military members & civilian employees serving to protect us.
