I have figured out what I have been listening to for the past week, and
all day long today over Cape Canaveral.
The US Customs & Border Patrol aircraft that I have been hearing at
Cape Canaveral AFS are engaged in test flights of the unmanned aerial
vehicles (UAVs) that the US Coast Guard and CBP will be using.
These are maritime versions of the Predator-B drones that CBP has
been using to monitor the nation's northern and southern borders since 2005.
This maritime version of the drones is named "Guardian."
Right now "Omaha 58" (UH-60A #86-24558) is up with "Omaha 12" and
"Omaha 13." They have comms with "Guardian CDO" via 136.375. "CDO" could be
Customs Drone Ops, as that describes the function I am hearing.
At one point Omaha 58 asked Guardian CDO to come up on Blue 3, and
they came up on 350.025 MHz. Then they tried 165.2375 MHz. But they returned
to 136.375 and have pretty much stuck with that freq.
Omaha 58 is preparing to recover the drone now.
