On Wednesday 25 Aug 2010, two Patrick AFB C-130s departed to TXKF
(Bermuda) en route to the Horn of Africa. Members of Patrick AFB's 920th
Rescue Wing are deploying to the Somalia-Ethiopia area for two months.
The C-130s departed Patrick AFB shortly before 11am EDT, using the
callsigns "Reach 39" and "Reach 40." The tail numbers of the aircraft
were
64-14855 and 65-0970.
The planes used 303.0 for air-air comms (they IDd the freq as
"Winchester"). They also had comms with "King Ops" on 321.0 MHz, and with
Patrick's "Barrier Ops" on 311.0 MHz.
The Patrick AFB birds were later heard on HF flying from Lajes to
Sigonella.
NOTE: these aircraft should not be confused with the flight of Moody AFB
71RQS C-130s that were flying to Mildenhall in UK about the same time.
Those
Moody AFB aircraft were using the callsigns "King 982" (65-0982) "King
983" (65-0983).
