[MilCom] Why Should I Waste My Time Posting

Hello Jack & the group:

I would think that milcom has reached it's "maturity" (and perhaps "decline"
point at this time (remember marketing 101 in the stages of a new product),
barring another "9/11" type terrorist attack, or other milcom related "high
adventure" that gets nationwide press coverage.

Most people buy scanners to listen to the local police, fire, ems (public
safety) type activity. Generally now with the advent of a lot of radio
trunking systems, it takes a lot of money to just get into the hobby for
most. Milcom is also more difficult to understand to most hobbyists and
when one talks about it to friends, family, & co-workers they may think you
are "strange". At my workplace I'm able to operate my scanner in my office
& when 104th FW F15's fly over our facility I'll always let the others know
what the callsign of the aircraft is (are) & how many of them are flying
over. HOWEVER, there's more intrest in what is going on if the local PD
cruiser goes by with it's siren on :(

BTW I've chosen the once a month log summary posting as my method of
historically reporting what I've heard milcom wise while monitoring, so at
least anyone visiting or living in my monitoring area will readily be able
to plug in those frequencies & hear activity. I think that most hobbyists
who sign on to this list could easily contribute their loggings, even if it
was 1 day or a few days of activity per month to give all of us the flavor
of what is active milcom wise in their monitoring area. Just takes a
little self discipline & voluntary effort. Hopefully more will decide to
contribute to the list!!!
