Navy Training off The Eastern Shore and Hampton Roads
The U.S. Fleet Forces Command has released its recommendations with respect to Navy training and testing off the coast of the Eastern Shore and Hampton Roads.

It is recommended that training and warfare missions be expanded, including using more commercial aircraft to serve as oppositional forces rather than using U.S. Navy aircraft, incorporating anti-terrorism training into existing training events, adjusting training levels to ensure that deployment can be stepped up quickly and at multiple locations in response to world events, conducting training associated with the introduction of the new MH-60 helicopter and conducting new mine countermeasure systems.

Also recommended is the designation of a mine warfare training area in the lower Chesapeake Bay and along the Virginia coast for enhanced mine countermeasures and neutralization training.

The Navy also proposes to reduce the number of at-sea bombing exercises that involve dropping live explosive ordnance. These events would be reduced to five per year, with each event utilizing four explosive bombs.
