Any mariners experiencing a marine emergency and unable to contact Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads via Marine VHF Radio Channel 16, the primary method of communication, may now call a new toll-free emergency number: 1-877-SCCJSAR (722-5727)

Sector Hampton Roads is responsible for responding to marine emergencies in the following areas: along the coast from the Delaware-Maryland border to the Virginia-North Carolina border, in the Chesapeake Bay south of the Potomac River, and within the navigable rivers of Virginia.
