Well, after unwrapping more of the heavy paper surrounding one of the
amplifier I found a decal with interesting instructions.  It seems one
adjusts the alarm for the 'normal' noise level and then the alarm will sound
when there is increased 'aircraft noise'...  so these things sounded an
alert when aircraft approached overhead?  strange, but amazing!  kinda makes
one wonder why radar would be in such short supply since these amps seem to
be from the late 50s or early 60s when radar was not exotic technology...
