More or less, that's pretty much the way I had heard
it give or take a bit. I looked at your link and I am
pretty sure that I have read that article before
although it looks like some new(er than the last time
I read it :-) ) material has been added.
When push came to shove, they had to call it
SOMETHING.... and in a black project, the more
confusion you can put out, the better. That is, as
long as it doesn't confuse OUR guys more than THEIR
guys. :-)
"Aurora" is a whole other can of worms. While it is
clear that "stuff" was being flown secretly (witness
that "Bird of Prey" was unknown to most folks until it
showed up one day hanging from the ceiling at the USAF
Museum at Wright-Pat), NAMES for that stuff don't make
a lot of sense and seem to often be assigned fairly
spuriously. For example HAVE BLUE as the F-117's
more-or-less prototype had *anything* to do with the
program???? It doesn't seem so, so "Aurora" could
easily have been a spuriously assigned name if you
ignore the oft-cited "accidental" mention in a fiscal
year budget which may or may NOT have had anything to
do with it.
