[MilCom] D-ATIS

There has been a lot of talk/message traffic (and a lot of misinformation)
about the D-ATIS systems being intalled at airports here in the US. I have
the full details direct from the mouth of the horse that will appear in one
of my Monitoring Time magazine columns shortly. But to set the record
straight before it becomes an urban legend, here is the scoop.

D-ATIS is not replacing voice ATIS systems. In fact, D-ATIS have been on the
air for quite sometime now. D-ATIS messages are transmitted to the aircraft
subscribing to the service on demand to pilots via the ACARS system. There
are NO D-ATIS frequencies that are replacing voice ATIS systems.

And now you know the rest of the story.
