Interesting public press release I came across recently while doing some
research
http://www.pressmediawire.com/article.cfm?articleID=4371
It indicates that CAP has over 530 aircraft flying around in the US.
Another interesting information that is posted on the public accessible CAP
website is the revised CAPR 60-1 Flight Management (Feb 2008)
http://level2.cap.gov/documents/u_082503073227.pdf
I think that this shows what type of training is required by CAP pilots to
remain proficient (as is with military pilots), as well as shows the type of
missions (attachment #10) that CAP can be tasked to fly.
I'm surprised that we don't get more loggings posted of these flights.
Remember that "Monitoring Times" magazine published extensive information on
CAP callsigns
http://www.monitoringtimes.com/mthelpdeskjun07.pdf
and potential CAP frequencies in the June 2007 edition as well as the
annual airshow edition see:
http://www.monitoringtimes.com/mtairshow07.pdf
http://www.monitoringtimes.com/MT/lowressample.pdf
Also see the Milcom Blog:
http://mt-milcom.blogspot.com/search/label/Civil%20Air%20Patrol
I would think that the aircraft would be operating on typical Air Traffic
Control Frequencies with an easy distinguished aircraft callsign & with over
500 of them flying around we should be hearing more (even in Duane's
area!!!! :) ).
Of course also remember that the nearest unit to your monitoring location
can be found at:
