Not the one you may be familiar with...
Some time in the 1980's, Radio Shack introduced their "VHF-Hi/Air/UHF Base
Antenna", part number 20-176.
It had one element and three ground radials. On the end of each element was
a translucent red plastic ball. The antenna had a bracket so that it could
be mounted on a mast.
While a photo of this exact model was included in their catalogs up to 1996,
the antenna of this design had been changed in 1992 or 1993 to a flimsy
design with three elements and three ground radials, there have been many
articles for modifying the newer model for multi-band Amatuer Radio use.
In 1997, the photo in the catalogs changed to match the product.
A photo of the original design can be seen in the 1990 Radio Shack catalog
on page 75, antenna #6, 1991 catalog page 61, antenna #9 and the 1996
catalog, page 34, antenna #22.
In the 1997 Radio Shack catalog, the newer design, which had been available
for roughly five years prior can be seen on page 43, antenna #4.
I am looking for an antenna or two of the ORIGINAL design, the single
element with the red balls on the ends, preferably new, or in extremely good
and unmodified condition.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Kurt
