Way back in the '50's the mayor of Columbus,GA said "they can close Ft. 
Benning and it will not be missed".
The Commanding General arranged to have everyone paid with $2.00 bill's the 
next payday. The mayor was quoted as saying "Where in the hell did all those 
$2.00 bill's come from all at once".
When it was explained to him what happened, nothing else was heard about 
closing Ft. Benning.
