Greetings everyone,
At 10 am Sunday morning, Sept 30, while standing outside of our church, I
heard the roar and looked up just in time to see a flight of 3 SNOWBIRDS
doing a low altitude pass, with smoke on. I had a great view as they
passed almost overhead and then flew off. I watched them circle around and
head off to the east, when I lost sight of them. I never saw them again,
so it's not clear to me if they were heading back to Moose Jaw (which is
west of Regina, so they were flying the wrong way if they were heading
east), or if they had another destination.
What a nice surprise for a Sunday morning. I did not know until after, but
the SNOWBIRDS were doing a fly-by at a ceremony honouring fallen peace
officers being held at the Saskatchewan Legislature. The Leg is just down
the road from our church. The annual ceremony honours police officers
killed in the line of duty, and was held in parallel with a national
ceremony the same day in Ottawa.
As I said, I did not know about the ceremony beforehand, and of course I
had no idea the SNOWBIRDS were going to do a fly-by, so of course I had no
scanner with me. The usual air to air frequency for the SNOWBIRDS is
272.1, but of course I have no idea what frequency was being used for the
flyby.
Even if I did know ahead of time about the flyby, I'm sure the pastor of
our church would take a very dim view of one of his congregation listening
to a scanner during the sermon! :-)
