P-3C "Lima Lima 79" (NAS Jax VP-30) was just up with Orlando A/D on
281.425 and informed that they had been on route to waypoint Freeport,
but are having lots of radio trouble. They have no VHF radio and have
been unable to contact Miami Ctr on 348.7. They wish to RTB to NAS Jax
immed.
Orlando A/D hands them off to Miami Ctr's 293.225, and they are
successful in establishing comms to RTB, but have difficulty hearing
them. Now they have switch to Jax Ctr on 307.25 who immediately
sends them to Jax Ctr's 273.55.
A short while after switching to Jax Ctr's 273.55, Lima Lima 79
came up on 285.0 with NAS Jax TSC "Fiddle" and IDd using tactical
callsign "Quartet 711." They also came up on 306.0 for comms with
"30," probably VP-30 Duty Office at NAS Jax. Lima Lima 79 described
their comms problems to each party.
