Hello Tony:
I don't have a problem at work from my boss about using my radio scanner,
BUT I found that all the office equipment & computers/monitors interferes
greatly with many of the VHF aero (especially air/air tacticals 138-150 mhz
range) & some UHF aero frequencies. Also there's a lot of audio activity
constantly occurring in the office, e.g. phones ringing, responding to phone
calls, paging system announcement, portable low power business w/t's
operations, etc... which really from my standpoint doesn't make the
monitoring effort that enjoyable. A hobby should be relaxing and not add to
ones stress. Occasionally, if the office audio activity is lower I may put
the scanner on for a bit & monitor.
As far as monitoring on the daily work commute, I get fair results. I
travel right next to the approach zone for one of KCEF's major runways & can
also see the " 'Alternate' Dog Patch" Helicopter Low Level training area, so
occasionally can see the aircraft/helos while monitoring the scanner as I
drive by. It's especially exciting when a C5 flys over my vehicle at low
level.
