Greg,

I don't think Joe was surprised they were on VHF (Hornets love VHF for 
Center,Tower, etc). But the fact they were using the 138-144MHz range 
which is usually just USAF types (F-16,A-10 mainly).

F/A 18's had had VHF for years. A buddy of mine flys them & we have 
meet on 123.025 often.
