So far it seems that within the United States, the efforts of DHS, military
investigators/counter intelligence (e.g. AFOSI), local law enforcement, and
those "covert" airport suveillance/response teams, have ensured that
shoulder fired missiles are not used in the US.
Surely, a large part of terrorism's success is to force the use of
additional resources (money, personnel, and defensive systems) to "just in
case" scenerios.
Personally, when flying on any commercial airline, it would be more
comforting to known that a missile defense system was in place on the
aircraft "JUST IN CASE".
