From the TV news in Tupelo... "Air Force investigators are on the
scene where a Columbus Air Force base training jet crashed Thursday
afternoon. The accident happened about 1:30pm in Panola County near
the Quitman County line. Columbus Air Force Base officials say the
T-38 with two pilots aboard went down during a low level navigation
training flight. The pilots ejected safely before the plane went down."

That Quitman / Panola county line puts them squarely in the MS Delta,
but still a good ways from the river. Thankfully, the Memphis news
reports both pilots walked away, albeit with one getting his
parachute stuck in a tree... they also reported that one of the
pilots stated that a large flock of geese flew up from the ground and
into them.. Footage from the scene doesn't appear to show any fire
damage, just a T-38 in 2 pieces and missing its wings.. It's so flat
in that part of the state (it makes Kansas look downright
mountainous) and the fields go on for miles and miles with no
obstructions, one wonders how low they were...
