First off Happy New Year to everyone!
Starting about 9:45AM
SLUFF 61 (KC-135 Rickenbacker AFB, OH) checks in on DUKE Primary freq of
301.60.
9:48 FLYER 1 Checks in with Cleveland Center (ZOB - Wayland) on 353.83
9:50 FLYERs switch to DUKE Primary 301.60, four FLYERs check in.
9:58 FLYERs begin two on two ACM engagement. Activity is on 301.60, sounds
pretty intense. Oftentimes the Willow Grove guys will use their VHF radios
during the ACM engagements. However, FLYER 3 is having radio issues. This
is good for me since from my office I cannot pick-up the VHF transmissions.
10:03 SLUFF checks in with the FLYER flight, they are coordinating their AR
Hook-up. (301.60)
Refuelling will be at 16,000 feet. The Flyers are going to mix it up again
after refuelling.
10:08 FLYER 1 comes in for gas. (301.60)
10:09 FLYER 1 disconnects. (301.60)
10:10 FLYER 2 cleared for contact. (301.60)
10:12 FLYER 2 done and at 10:13 FLYER 3 is cleared for contact. (301.60)
10:13 SLUFF 61 advises FLYER 3 to stay attached to the boom when flow has
stopped, they have to close a valve to prevent spraying the canopy. (301.60)
10:14 SLUFF jokingly asks FLYER 1 if they use the Mavericks (AGM-65 ground
attack missile) during ACM. (301.60)
10:15 FLYER 3 disconnects and FLYER 4 to the boom. (301.60)
10:17 FLYER 4 gets gas. (301.60)
10:18 FLYER 4 could not connect due to canopy spray. (301.60) FLYER 1
advises that 4 will not hook-up, he has enough gas to make it home.
10:19 SLUFF 61 and the FLYERs are wrapped up refuelling.
10:21 FLYERs are working on their engagement set-up. (301.60)
10:24 FLYERs are in the middle of an engagment (301.60). They must have
dropped lower and moved to the South Eastern part of the DUKE MOA, I can
hardly pick them up. They'll probably be heading out soon anyway....
10:30 FLYERs Push 17 and come up on 338.30, New York Center, and report at
11,000 feet headed direct to Willow Grove.
That'll do it from here. They may be using 143.25 (AM Mode) for Air to Air.
