Heard 148.150 active at approximately 14:00 Local
today with a couple of units calling Addison base (KADS).
Very brief traffic, certainly nothing very exciting.
As much hype as they get from this group and from
various media, I find Civil Air Patrol communications
pretty boring (at least in North Texas). Occasionally, the
nets will come up with some traffic and test out the various
repeaters (we have a few with various PL's around the metro)
but otherwise it's very much like a bunch of HRO's rag chewing
about nothing in particular ("ya hear me know?, ok, let's try this
repeater...yada, yada, yada....), but instead they're using wing codes
like "TEXAS CAP WING calling TEXAS RED FOX 1" or something
like that. Not really earth shattering material.
Rarely do we have the excitement of a REAL search. Even
then, most resources come from local public safety (ground
and air) more than CAP, especially in the DFW area.
BTW - No moves yet to digital or usage of the new narrowband
in this area that I have personally heard.
