Hello Chris & the group.

Pretty exciting to pickup radio comms from CAP aircraft engaged in volunteer 
service either in a real mission or practice mission isn't it!!!???

Chris how far is the mission base from your general monitoring area?

line of site air to ground communications range.  OR Distance (Line of 
Sight) = 1.4 X  SQR (Ground Antenna Height + Airborne Antenna Height)

I wonder what interesting facts Mr. Google can tells us about CAP Highbird 
Operations & Procedures? :)
