Well it's interesting to see how common people can think in a common way.  We all enjoy the hobby and want to share the enjoyment we have with others.  It's interesting to go to some of the other hobby sites and see how they feel about airshow scanning:

So the question is why is NASCAR scanning more 'acceptable' and less of a security risk than scanning at airshows?  What happens if someone broadcasts incorrect information on NASCAR frequencies?

I also agree that cost is an issue.  I think the cheapest mil air capable radio is the Pro-97, and the next cheapest is the recently discontinued BR-330T for $250.  Then you start getting into the $500 relm with the BCD-306T and the high end 'communication receivers' from Icom, Alinco and AOR.  I guess that Icom and Yaesu have radios in the ~200 range that will also do mil air...

But if this is going to take off, you're really going to need the support of the airshow community, and I don't think it's going to happen.
