Additional more specific information on these charter flights can be found
at:
http://www.newszap.com/articles/2007/03/23/dm/sussex_county/dsn01.txt
Check out the cost per flying hour being paid. The article also states
that Kalitta Charters (http://www.kalittacharters.com/appears) will be paid
for round trip costs, even when the aircraft is empty on the return trip to
KDOV. Kalitta's Falcon 20 models are being used for the transport.
I TOTALLY AGREE that service persons' remains shouldn't go in the cargo hold
area of a commercial aircraft!!!
Its' too bad that the miltary can't come up with an "inhouse" method to
provide this support (perhaps larger aircraft to military bases & than
smaller civilian or military aircraft/helos to deceased service person's
hometown airport) As an example: The 103FW (Bradley ANGB, CT) transition
to C21 aircraft has YANKEE 1 flying into various New England smaller
airfields for training -- got to wonder why those seats in the C21 couldn't
be removed and at least in the New England area, the training flights could
be actual mission support flights!! Also unfortunately, Civil Air Patrol
aircraft cabin area aren't large enough to accomodate this mission.
